Solar self-consumption: how much of your solar you actually use
The share of solar energy used in your home as it is produced (or via your battery), rather than exported to the grid.
Solar peaks at midday; most homes use the most electricity in the evening. A typical home without a battery directly uses about 30–50% of its solar and exports the rest.
A battery shifts midday surplus into the evening, raising self-consumption. That only saves money if exports are worth less than imports (net billing or time-of-use).
