Privacy policy

Solar Plan LLC runs solarplanbuilder.com. This page explains what we collect, why, who receives it and what you can do about it.

The short version

• There is no account to create. We never ask for your phone number.
• Your plan lives in the page link, not on our servers. Anyone you give the link to can open it.
• We count visits and which features people use. Our analytics tools don’t receive your name, the address you type or your email.
• You can switch analytics off on any browser by visiting solarplanbuilder.com/?notrack=1.

What we collect and why

What you type into the planner and tools

Your address or town, bill or usage, roof details, quote numbers and appliance choices are used to calculate your results. We don’t store them. When you share or save a plan, those inputs are written into the page link itself, so keep a link private if it contains your address.

Address search

When you type into the address box, the text is sent from our server to mapping and geocoding providers so they can find the location. We don’t keep a log of what you search for.

Maps and aerial photos

Your browser loads maps and aerial imagery directly from mapping providers. As with any image on the web, those providers receive your IP address and the map area being shown. To make the roof view appear faster, we may start loading the imagery for your address while you answer the planner’s questions.

Usage analytics

We use analytics providers to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, which tools are used and where people get stuck. They receive the page path, stripped of any address or plan details; events such as “result viewed” with general values like the goal you chose or your state; and the device, browser and approximate location that analytics tools normally infer. One of these providers sets cookies. Analytics only runs on solarplanbuilder.com itself and is off for automated browsers.

Opt out: visit any page with ?notrack=1 added to the address, for example solarplanbuilder.com/?notrack=1. That browser stops sending analytics until you visit with ?notrack=0 or clear the site’s data.

Contact form

If you write to us, we receive your name (optional), email, topic and message, plus your plan link if you choose to attach it. Our email provider delivers the message to our inbox. We use your email only to reply, and we keep messages as long as we need them to help you. You can ask us to delete them.

Email updates, when offered

If you sign up for email (for example, rule changes for your state), we keep your email address and the topics you chose with our email provider, and send only what you asked for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Hosting and security

Our hosting provider processes IP addresses and request details to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.

What’s stored on your device

The site keeps a few small items in your browser’s local storage: plan versions you pin (they stay on that device only), a random visitor ID and session ID used for analytics, the date of your last visit, and your analytics opt-out setting. Analytics cookies are set by the analytics provider. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes all of it.

Who receives information

• Service providers that run parts of the site for us: hosting, mapping and imagery, analytics and email delivery. They receive only what they need to do that job.
• Other websites, only if you choose to visit them. Some pages link to manufacturers’ sites. If you click one, you leave our site and their privacy policy applies. We don’t send them anything you entered here.
• When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or Solar Plan LLC.
• If the business changes hands, this information may transfer to the new owner, who must follow this policy for what was collected under it.

We don’t currently work with advertising, affiliate or referral partners, so no information goes to any. If that changes, we’ll update this policy before it does.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, such as contact messages or an email subscription, by writing to hello@solarplanbuilder.com. Depending on where you live, state privacy laws may give you additional rights, and we’ll honor them. We won’t treat you differently for asking.

Children

solarplanbuilder.com is for adults planning home energy projects. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and access to our systems and provider accounts is limited. No system is perfectly secure, so please don’t send us sensitive information we haven’t asked for.

Where information is processed

We’re based in the United States, and our providers may process information in the U.S. and other countries.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information we already have, we’ll say so clearly on the site.
