Specific yield (kWh/kWp): the best single number for comparing solar locations

Yearly kWh produced per kW of panels. It captures sunshine, climate and orientation in one number: ~1,100 in Seattle, ~1,750 in Phoenix.

Specific yield normalises away system size, so you can compare locations and orientations fairly. Multiply by system size to get annual production.

If a quote’s production estimate implies a yield far above what independent models show for your address and roof direction, ask why.
